Alabama A&M Athletics Renews Multi-Year Partnership with The Zone, Doubling Down on Mental Performance

NORMAL, Ala. — Alabama A&M University Athletics has renewed its partnership with The Zone, the mental performance platform built specifically for athletic programs, signing a multi-year extension that keeps The Zone embedded across Bulldog athletics for two additional years. The renewal follows three full years of partnership, making Alabama A&M one of the longest-tenured programs on the platform and a continued pioneer of athlete mental performance within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

Three years is a meaningful tenure in college athletics — a span that encompasses multiple competitive seasons, full recruiting cycles, coaching transitions, and championship campaigns. Having integrated The Zone across that period, Alabama A&M elected to extend its commitment for two additional years department-wide, affirming mental performance as a permanent part of its athletic infrastructure rather than a short-term initiative.

"The part that matters most to me is what this means for the athletes," said Ivan Tchatchouwo, Founder & CEO of The Zone. "For three years, Alabama A&M's student-athletes have had real support in their corner — not only in the hard moments, but every single day. They've built a place where taking care of your mind is just part of being a competitor, and where help is always within reach. That's what we want for every program we work with, and Alabama A&M is showing the rest of college athletics what it can look like."

As one of the earliest adopters in the SWAC, Alabama A&M helped set the standard for how programs approaches athlete care. The renewal reinforces that leadership at a moment when programs across college athletics are racing to make mental performance a permanent part of their performance model. The extended partnership also gives Alabama A&M's athletes and coaches access to The Zone's expanded offering, which now pairs mental performance tools with clinical support services.

Through The Zone, Alabama A&M student-athletes and coaches now have access to both mental performance and clinical support services — everyday tools and professional care working together. For athletes, that means consistent, athlete-first support through performance pressure, stress, emotional fatigue, and the everyday demands of school, sport, and life, plus clinical resources for the moments that call for more. Coaches and athletic staff have that same support available to them, along with team-level visibility and tools to proactively engage their athletes and reinforce healthy habits — without ever accessing individual athlete data. Privacy and trust have been central to the partnership from day one, and that foundation is part of why it has lasted.

"The Zone has been a great resource for our student-athletes. We are excited to continue our partnership with them. Using the app gives our student-athletes access to many mental health and performance resources, which aids in being able to service more student-athletes in need. The great thing about The Zone app is that no appointment is needed — they have the resources at their fingertips. We are excited to implement their new features and to keep encouraging our athletes to put their mental health needs first!" said Jessie Zucnick-Kimbugwe, Director of Sports Medicine for Alabama A&M Athletics.

By renewing and expanding, Alabama A&M continues to set the pace for the rest of college athletics — proof that the programs willing to invest early in athlete mental performance are the ones defining what comprehensive athlete care looks like.
